A 2002 study (Source: Violence at work 3rd edn , p.13 - Chappell & Di Martino) in Germany found that over 800,000 workers in Germany were victims of 'mobbing', (also known as bullying) as a form of workplace violence.

In 2010, research led by the 'Institute of Nursing Science at the University of Bielefeld' carried out a survey on aggression and violence against health care workers in Germany - specifically workers in nursing homes, a psychiatric clinic and a workshop for people with disabilities. The sample, whilst relatively small, outlined that lone workers in this sector had a distinct lack of 'social support'. When asked about the priovious 12 month period over 70% of respondents experienced physical aggression with just under 84% of respondents suffering verbal aggression. Aside from the obvious risk of injury, the study also suggested that verbal & physical incidents are clear contributers to increased incidents stress, absenteeism and illness.
