CONNEXION2 ADDS MAN-DOWN DETECTION TO IDENTICOM

The new Corporate Manslaughter legislation likely to become law in June is focusing attention on lone workers and a company’s legal and social duty of care to provide staff with safety equipment that reduces their working risks from both attack and injury. Connexion2, manufacturer of the award winning Identicom lone worker device, today launched the Identicom i770, with man-down detection, which addresses both types of risk and provides employers with a means of reducing their exposure to the costs of insurance and litigation resulting from the new legislation.

The Identicom i770 with man-down detection provides all the proven benefits of the existing Identicom product, protecting lone workers from abuse or attack, whilst incorporating the capability for a manned monitoring centre to be alerted, either manually or automatically, in the case of injury or incapacity of the user. State-of-the-art signal processing technology analyses tilt, immobility and any sudden impacts, in combination with non-response timed alerts. This in addition to a rip alarm and discreetly operable manual call button helps detect an employee in difficulty, and raise an alarm across the GSM network, whilst minimising false alarms.

“With the introduction of the Corporate Manslaughter bill, company directors and senior managers can now be held culpable for deaths or serious injury caused by their company’s gross negligence”, says Craig Swallow, Managing Director of Connexion2.“The amount a company or organisation will be fined is rising and will take into account the severity of the incident. The new Identicom i770, together with a manned monitoring service such as that provided by SoloProtect, is a critical element in demonstrating that adequate procedures and protection have been put in place for lone working employees”.

The Identicom i770 with man-down detection is currently being sold and supported through SoloProtect. Launched this year, SoloProtect is a best-of-breed service for lone workers delivering peace of mind to worker and employer alike. For an all-inclusive price, the SoloProtect service provides the five core elements that are essential for a credible and complete lone worker solution. Incorporating the Identicom device, SIM and inclusive airtime, face-to-face user training, 24 hour manned monitoring to BS5979 Cat II and Connexion2’s unique TotalCare™ pre & post sale customer support, SoloProtect provides customers with an uncomplicated yet complete approach to pricing, implementation and use.

During 2005/6 the Health & Safety Executive recorded 212 work related mortalities and an additional 29,000 incidents where workers suffered major injury whilst at work, resulting in the loss of six million working days.

Connexion2 will be showing the Identicom i770 with man-down detection at this year's IFSEC Expo at the NEC, Birmingham. 21st - 24th May 2007, Hall 6 Stand 4039.
