IDENTICOM SECURES ACPO ‘SECURED BY DESIGN’ ACCREDITATION

Connexion2 has received the coveted ACPO Secured by Design (SBD) Award for its Identicom range of lone worker devices. Identicom has met the stringent security standards required by SBD, an initiative from the Association of Police Officers (ACPO) that aims to reduce crime through effective design.

Last year’s winner of the ACPO Award at the IFSEC Security Industry Innovation Awards, Identicom underwent rigorous evaluation prior to being accepted by SBD. Now, Identicom is able to utilise the coveted SBD logo - the only logo that guarantees national Police approval of a product. The SBD logo provides security specifiers, managers and end customers with reassurance that the accredited product provides a realistic level of resistance to criminal attack. The logo is widely recognised within industry and is increasingly being listed as a mandatory requirement in various tenders.

Commenting, Jon Cole, Licensing and Technical Manager of ACPO Crime Prevention Initiatives said: “Identicom is a fit for purpose lone worker protection device that when used in conjunction with good working practice, credible user training and quality BS5979 standard monitoring can provide excellent support to lone workers at risk of attack, verbal abuse or ‘man down’ type risks such as slips and falls.”

Secured by Design is the UK Police flagship initiative supporting the principles of "designing out crime" through the use of effective crime prevention and security standards for a range of applications. A not for profit company, ACPO Crime Prevention Initiatives Limited was established in 1999 by the Association of Police Officers (ACPO) to manage Secured by Design and similar crime prevention initiatives at a national level.

“Gaining Secured by Design approval for Identicom is a significant achievement”, said Craig Swallow, Managing Director of Connexion2. “It demonstrates our commitment to safety and sustainability and provides our valued customers with reassurance that our product matches quoted performance claims. Securing SBD status accreditation provides Identicom with a competitive advantage and reiterates its status as a first class product.”

Looking like a normal ID holder but equipped with a tri-band GSM module, Identicom can be used to summon assistance without increasing the personal risk to the worker and only when absolutely required. Launched in 2005 Identicom is now being used by a wide range of employees including NHS, local authorities, housing associations, charity workers, estate agents, key holders and financial sector professionals.
