I need technical support

Below are a number of frequently asked technical questions which may assist you. If however you cannot find the answer to your question then please email us at support@connexion2.com. Alternatively you may find our web based training useful to help familiarise yourself with key functions. Click on 'Products' followed by 'Identicom Training'.

How do I recharge Identicom?

To recharge Identicom simply insert the charger into the bottom of the Identicom unit. Make sure the charger is plugged in and switched on. A green LED should appear on the charger unit and the battery LED on Identicom should flash. When fully charged the battery light on Identicom will remain as a solid green light. A full charge (from empty to 100%) should take 2-3hours maximum.

How do I insert the SIM card into Identicom?

If an ID card is already fitted into the Identicom, you must remove it to get access to the SIM card door. Gently press down on the edge of the ID card nearest the exit slot, then slide the ID card out.

Use the following procedure to insert the SIM card.

1.Use a fingernail, a small screwdriver tip or a nail file to prise up the SIM card door next to the rounded corner.

2.With the SIM card door open, raise the SIM cardholder by sliding the catch mechanism towards the Identicom logo.

3. With the SIM card holder raised, orientate the SIM card so that the gold contacts meet with those on the SIM card holder and insert.

4.Press down the card holder and slide the catch mechanism away from the Identicom logo to secure the SIM card in place.

Note:The gold connector must be on the under side of the SIM card, and the angled corner of the card must be next to the bottom right corner of the device (looking at the front).

5.Close the SIM card door by pressing down on the rounded corner.

How do I install a lanyard or lapel clip attachment?

You install the lanyard at two corners dependant on whether it is to be worn for a landscape ID card or a portrait ID card. The attachment at one corner is by way of a plastic plug which fits tightly in its socket, but which will pull out if tugged firmly. The Identicom can be configured so that pulling the lanyard plug out of its socket will cause a Red Alert. This is designed to help you in case a person tries to remove the Identicom from you by force. A Red Alert caused in this manner is referred to as a Rip Alarm Alert.

Three plugs are provided with the Identicom offering increasing degrees of tightness in the socket. Use the plug with a single dot for the lightest fitting, which requires the least amount of force to remove it, or the plug with three dots for the tightest fitting, which requires the greatest amount of force to remove it. We recommend starting with the middle plug – the one with two dots.

Use the following procedure to attach the lanyard.

1.Thread the fine loop at one end of the lanyard part way through the attachment hole in the plug you have selected to use.

2. Thread the other end of the lanyard through the loop of cord that has passed through the hole in the plug. Pull the lanyard tight, so that the loop of cord is snug around the plastic plug.

3.Repeat this procedure with the other end of the lanyard at the chosen attachment point. Pull the lanyard tight, so that the loop of cord is snug around the attachment point.

4.Insert the plastic plug into its socket at the corner. The lanyard is now attached.

If you do not want to use the lanyard, you can attach a lapel clip. If you are not using the lanyard, insert one of the plugs into the socket at the corner  to prevent dust or dirt from entering the socket.

Note:The Rip Alarm Alert function can only work if the lanyard is attached. There is no Rip Alarm switch at the lapel clip attachment point.

How do I turn Identicom on/off?

To check that Identicom is on, press the Status button for 2 seconds. If the LEDs do not start flashing, the Identicom is off.

To switch the Identicom on, press the Status and Amber buttons together until the LEDs start flashing. The device vibrates briefly to confirm.

To switch the Identicom off, press the Status and Amber buttons together until the device vibrates twice.

When the Identicom is on, it registers with the mobile phone network and is ready to communicate an Amber or Red alert. If you go out of coverage for more than 30 minutes, the Identicom switches to a sleep mode to preserve battery power. This does not stop the Identicom from working, but when you press any of the buttons it will take slightly longer to connect the call or report the status.

How can I identify if there is a fault with the SIM card?

If no SIM card is fitted, or there is a fault with the SIM card, the Identicom gives a two second vibration, and both the Battery LED and the Signal LED flash red alternately for ten seconds.

What configuration options does Identicom have?

For the full details of all configuration commands and options you should read the manual that comes with an Identicom unit or refer to Connexion2 for a copy. You can contact Connexion2 at 01909 550368 or info@connexion2.com

How is Identicom configured?

Identicom is configured by sending configuration details as a series of SMS messages. In order to receive configuration details the Identicom unit must be on its charger and in coverage. Configuration can be achieved by using a web to SMS configuration tool such as that provided by Connexion2 Limited or from a mobile phone or PC attached to a GSM modem.

Is it possible to determine the configuration profile that an Identicom unit has?

Yes. An Identicom unit can be interrogated by sending a .DCC command to it followed by a mobile number. This will return a full listing of the unit’s configuration to the mobile number. Note that this can only be achieved if the unit being interrogated is on a charger and in coverage. Further details of the .DCC command can be found in the Identicom user manual.

What GSM modem does Identicom use?

Identicom currently uses the Siemens MC45 GSM modem when shipped into European and North American markets. The MC45 is a tri band GSM modem operating at 900Mhz, 1800Mhz and 1900Mhz and therefore operable on all European and North American GSM networks.

What kind of battery cell does Identicom use?

Identicom uses a Lithium Ion battery with a 700mAh capacity.
